Dyne is the main character in Haven. It is his destiny to save the world and stop the war that has been ravaging his world for eons. Until he was 16, he had no knowledge of this however. He had lived with his mother in the remote town of Dieth until Dieth was attacked, and everyone in the village except Dyne was killed. Dyne's father Dieken died before he was born. With no ties left, Dyne left Dieth to seek the truth behind the attack on Dieth, and find why it had happened. Dyne is very skilled with a sword, having practiced using his father's blade. He is also inherently skilled in using magic, which is a forgotten art in his world.

Takiu is a quiet and introspective person. He is a quick and rational thinker, and is extremely skilled in the sword, more so than Dyne or Xhyre or even Kaj, but he usually holds back his true strength in battles, most times being hesitant to even draw his sword. He meets Dyne by chance at first and then later through Kaj, and teams up with Dyne on his quest to find the four dragons. Supposedly, Takiu is descended from one of the most ancient and powerful noble clans, whose heirs, Treze and Takiu himself, were said to be lost over a decade and a half ago. Rumors of Takiu's return have given hope to many of the tired nobles, who are weary of fighting, but Takiu shows no interest in fighting in the current war, and never talks about his past to anyone, keeping most of his feelings to himself as well.

Xhyre is quick tempered and quick to fight. He is from the Chasar clan, which used to be part of the noble society, but was thrown out of the nobility when it was discovered that his father was a traitor. With everything he had known taken away at that time, including his father, Xhyre became a bandit. He meets Dyne and Takiu on their way to find the first dragon, and attacks them only to be brushed aside by Takiu. Dyne offers Xhyre the chance to join them, and he accepts, always ready for more battles and tougher opponents. Xhyre lives for the thrill of battles, and thus is a very accomplished swordsman. Always a loner, Xhyre does not really trust anyone but himself, and usually will do things according to his way, regardless of concerns for others. A bit reckless, he starts and gets into fights very easily with most people.

Adin is still a renowned knight and swordsman, though he has retired from the Order of the Knights of Resalas. A good friend of Dyne's father as well as Taro Uche, the father of the missing Uche heirs Treze and Takiu, Adin feels responsible in part for their untimely deaths by Ao Veraki's doing, not only because he couldn't stop it, but because he was once the teacher and mentor of Ao. Because of this he tries to help Dyne out as much as possible. He, like Ras, Rath, and Kaj feel that the current king, Vann Rafale, is doing nothing to ease the suffering of the kingdom, and thus is secretly working against him. He, like his mentor the late King Hiroei, wants the war to end, and the doctrine of the nobility to be eradicated, forfeiting all ties to noble bloodlines. He himself is only a half noble, but most people overlook that fact due to his heroic record in past battles, and the fact that he is partly related to the Rafailian royalty.

Kyoji is the leader of the rebellion against the nobles and the king, Vann, that is taking place in the west of Rafailia. When he was younger Kyoji wanted to become a knight, even though there had only ever been one other commoner knight, Dieken. However, those aspirations were crushed when Kyoji met a knight, Orion Traum, who betrayed him. Since then he has hated nobles and the order of society, and taken it upon himself to change things. He is a childhood friend named Triste, of whom he is very protective. Kyoji is currently working with Kaj, Rath, Ras, and Adin to overthrow the unjust King Vann, and to bring peace once again.

Triste is a childhood friend of Kyoji, the leader of the rebels, and she is helping him in the rebellion against the king. She is actually in love with Kyoji, though she is too shy to admit it. On most things, however, she is anything but shy. Strong and an excellent leader, Triste is skilled with a bow and arrow, and an excellent rider as well. Even though many of the rebels are older than she is, she is still seen as a figure of great authority, and is second in command to Kyoji. She tends to be a bit skeptical, and originally doubts Dyne, Xhyre, and Takiu's motives.

Ara is the only daughter of King Vann Rafale, who is the current king of the Rafalia Kingdom. She is uninterested in royal and noble customs, and thus is unaware of much of the internal conflicts and struggles for power occurring in Rafalia. She is very strong-willed and independent, and she hates how the nobles patronize her as a 'princess'. She meets Dyne while running away from her father's guards, and she uses him to lose them. Ara asks to go with Dyne, tired of the castle, and he agrees. However, it is not long before her brother, Prince Rath, comes to bring her back, Rath being very overprotective of his little sister.

Rath is the only son of King Vann Rafale, and he is current heir to the throne of Rafailia. He was taught and mentored by Adin, who showed him all of the terrible things that were occurring under his father's rule. When Rath confronted him about it, Vann refused to speak on it, and abolished Adin as Rath's tutor. Since then Rath has tried endless to help those who his father ignores, and is plotting to usurp his father's throne in order to bring peace once again. He is very protective of his sister, and has done what he can to keep his father's influence from her.

Ras is the current leader of the Order of the Knights of Resalas, which is the top regime of knights in the king's army. However, he does not trust the king and is plotting against him. The other members of Resalas know nothing of this though. Ras's noble origins are unknown by most but his patents of nobility show that he is descended from the royal Rafale line. However, Ras has a secret only known to a select few. Ras trusts Kaj and Adin more so than anyone else, and usually only tells the full details of his plans to them.

Kaj is a freelance swordsman of Rafailia who is the vigilante that the commoners have come to call the 'black swordsman'. Kaj always seems to know more than he should about things, and he definitely knows more than he tells people. He works very closely with Ras, and only takes orders from Ras, and Adin. He knows the truth about Takiu, and even about Dyne's destiny long before Dyne ever finds out.

Rune is one of the Knights of Resalas, under the command of Rassius. He is the youngest of Resalas, and can be impulsive. He is the only son of the knight Sir Orion Traum, who died in an attack at a rebel base. The Traum family is one of the newer noble families, going back only four generations. Rune wants to get revenge for his father by destroying all of the rebels, and eliminating the rebel group that killed his father, which still exists.

Vince is one of the Knights of Resalas, under the command of Rassius. His older brother, Vincent Vici is currently in charge of governing over much of the kings' western territory, including several rebel territories. His brother inherited the governorship from their father, Valiant Vici, who had died five years ago. Vincere, however, does not want to continue his father's position, and in fact does not care for his father or his brother's way of governing. He became a knight in order to end the war, and help make peace between the rebels and the king, so that his brother would not have to battle them anymore.

Aries is second in command of the Knights of Resalas, under the command of Rassius. He trusts Ras more than anyone, and is very loyal to him. He hails from the Valo family, which is the bloodline from which the royal family originated, and was now the oldest surviving noble family in existence. Previously, the Uche family had been the oldest surviving noble family, but the two Uche heirs are missing, and believed by most to be dead, so the title falls upon the Valo line. Having such lineage, he is very bound by the ancient codes of honor, and supports the king, even if he doesn't always agree with what the king decides.

Andreas is one of the Knights of Resalas, under the command of Rassius. Andreas is very intelligent, and excellent strategist. He doesn't agree with much of King Vann's actions, but he's not quite sure what to do about it, so he's quiet on most things. He is very good at noticing small things, and he for the most part realizes things for what they are, and what's actually going on around him. He has some suspicion that Ras is not all that he seems, but he does trust Ras so he doesn't mention anything. The Dei family is one of the older and more respected families, but Andreas is hiding several secrets about it. Unbeknownst to Andreas, Ras already knows the majority of these secrets, due to one of his own secret sources.

Ao is the new King of Drakar, which is the kingdom to the north of Rafailia. Ao was originally one of the Rafailian nobility, but when when his fiancee was killed, he lost his senses, and fell under the wing of Sekou, one of Drakar's top ranked soldiers. Sekou convinced him that he should destroy the world that took his fiancee from him, and so under Sekou's influence, he attacked Rafailia, and began the first stages of the current. He leaves most of the war in the charge of Sekou, although most of Rafailia see him as the main one responsible. Ao was once a good friend of Dieken, Dyne's father, as well as a student of Adin.

Sekou is the general of the Drakarian military, and he is in charge of running the war on Rafailia. Sekou was trained in the art of combat by his father Aku, who would make him fight relentlessly. Sekou eventually got his revenge by imprisoning his father, and he took his father's place and ambitions for his own, rising up in the Drakarian army. He was a rival of Dieken, Dyne's father, and he has long since wanted to crush Rafailia, so he uses Ao's grief for his own advantage. Skilled with words and persuasions, he commands his soldiers with an iron will. His three lieutenants, Antares Zarid, Lacerta Damu, and Volken Kurai, carry out the bulk of his orders. Sekou also has a young liege, Xeque Kizu, who he is training as his heir.

Xeque is a servant of Sekou, who Sekou is training as his heir. He shares some connection to Takiu, and knows the secret of Takiu's past. Xeque is hot-headed and quick to fight. He is strong in a fight, but has yet to fight in a real battle, for Sekou is trying to hone him as a secret weapon. Xeque, an orphan, thinks of Sekou as his real father, and would do anything for him.

Derin is one of the four dragons, who guard the secret of Haven. Dyne must meet with all of the dragons in order to unlock Haven's power, stop the war, and fulfill his Destiny.

Death is one of the four dragons, who guard the secret of Haven. Dyne must meet with all of the dragons in order to unlock Haven's power, stop the war, and fulfill his Destiny.

Varie is one of the four dragons, who guard the secret of Haven. Dyne must meet with all of the dragons in order to unlock Haven's power, stop the war, and fulfill his Destiny.

Vela is one of the four dragons, who guard the secret of Haven. Dyne must meet with all of the dragons in order to unlock Haven's power, stop the war, and fulfill his Destiny.

Vela is the white dragon.
