Devian Amayin is a junior at Central High. As a member of the track team, he's got 3 unbeatable school records, a ton of friends and admirers, and an almost guaranteed full track scholarship to his dream college, Riddle University, which is a school renown for its track team. The only problems are his grades. Devian must figure out a way to get at least a score of 21 on his ACT tests, or he has no chance of getting that scholarship, or into Riddle at all. Yet, the highest he has ever scored on any of the practice ACTs was a 12. He is best friends with Leo Cray, who has been trying to help, but so far to no avail.

Travis is a bit of a mystery. He transfers into Central High as a new junior...and he happens to be in all of Devian's classes! His past is unknown even to Devian, and he never speaks about it. Travis seems to have an air of authority, and most people don't approach him, yet he seems to have an interest in Devian. Travis is a genius and immediately upon entering Central High, he scores a perfect 36 on the practice ACT test.

About:

Leo has been Devian's best friend since grade school. He is also on the track team with Devian, as a sprinter, yet he isn't very serious about it. The reason he joined the track team was not only because of Devian, but more because of Ara, who is a high jumper on the team. Leo has a crush on Ara, and tries at every turn to win her affection, but to no avail.

About:

Ara is a friend of Devian and Leo, and she is also on the Central High track team, as a high jumper and sometimes pole vaultist. She is a very shy girl, and she has a crush on Devian, though she'd never tell him. She can be a bit oblivious, and miss things easily, but she does seem to notice something between Travis and Devian.

About:

Xhyre is quick tempered and quick to fight. He has deep connection to Travis's past, and was once Travis's lover. No one knows what happened between the two of them to make Travis leave, but Xhyre isn't going to give up yet. Xhyre is in contact with some very shady people, and he doesn't mind using force or persuasion to get his way.

About:

Coach Schmidt is of course the coach of the Central High track team. He is also Devian's history teacher, and Devian considers him a friend. He is the one who first told Devian about Riddle University, which was his alma mater. He was once a national track champion, and he encourages Devian a lot in his running ability.
